On Friday night I met with Kent and Melody at Miceli’s for dinner. After dinner we went to Yamashiro (which has finally finished their “pagoda bar” that was closed for 4+ years). After about 45 minutes a tall guy with long curly black hair came in and sat down at a table about ten feet […]
August Art Walk
I took the ol’ subway down to the artwalk last night. The art on display was, well, the usual. There were a few really bad, a few really good and a whole lot of mediocre. I’ll detail that as well as some other interesting things below in photos. Where I haven’t provided a photo please […]
my notes on the actual health care bill
as read from the draft available from the house ways and means here Line 23 – Church Health Plans are exempt from taxation. ugh… Page 16: Your current health care plan isn’t being destroyed Page 34: There will be a healthcare committee to review claim denials (I’m sure this is something the health care companies […]
ahem
What was that I was saying about how the cash for clunkers program was a good thing – and running out of money quickly was even better…? Something about how selling cars means automobile companies will increase production? Yeah, something like that. Anyway, I’m going to love seeing how Fox spins this as another Obama failure. […]
back to this whole health care thing
Now that Sarah Palin has added her “voice” to the debate the fire is getting stoked. More real world examples of the rationing that ALREADY HAPPENS WITH PRIVATE INSURANCE are popping up. for example see here and here. and all this. and this is awesome too. more to come I’m sure…
dangerous living in LA once again
I used to live two blocks from here on cahuenga. I used to get all my gas from this station… and get $5 pizza all the time at the Little Caesar’s across the street. Yesterday there was a gang shootout that killed somebody there. I never thought of NoHo as a dangerous neighborhood….
Tuesday leaving Seattle
On Tuesday I hiked to downtown to say goodbye to my friend and gracious host and walk to the light rail station. I stopped and ate the “large” container of Mac & Cheese at Beechers again (this was my 3rd trip there in 24 hours). Overall Seattle has excellent food if you know where to […]
Monday in Seattle
Monday I was on my own. Byron forgot some stuff so I met him for coffee by his office across the street from the Farmer’s Market. This was actually fortuitous as it gave me a chance to sample the “best mac and cheese” from Beecher’s that really was quite delicious. Beechers makes their own cheese right […]
Sunday in Seattle
Sunday morning we ate breakfast (this time actually before noon) at Top Pot. Byron was quite embarrassed by my insistence on dipping my doughnuts in milk until soggy. We sat outside and my dripping milk made an embarrassing (albeit delicious) mess. Next we took a bus to an area closer to UW and walked down […]
Saturday in Seattle
On Saturday, for the first meal of the day (I’m refusing to call anything after noon “breakfast”), we walked to Coastal Kitchenfor some really great Mexican inspired scrambled eggs and hash browns. On the way there we passed the very first “starbucks experiment.” For those not in the know, Starbucks has become aware that it is […]
