I was listening to Byron’s Pandora station today and this artist came up. Beautiful song (To The Stars). I did some research and found his LastFM station here. All good stuff, but I recommend listening to To the Stars first. This guy, like Saltillo and a few others, has an interesting way of integrating classical music and instrumentation into “modern” music (Saltillo uses the violin predominantly and Ogawa the Cello). These guys are poised to do amazing things if they just stick with it. What I’d like to hear is those two team up with Antony Hagerty (Saltillo clearly is an excellent composer but unacomplished lyricist/singer). In fact, Ogawa mentions on his blog that he is working on something with deeper “heavier” electronic sounds… I have a feeling this will turn out a lot like Saltillo but less gothic.

On Saturday we woke up dark and early before the sun in order to catch our Uber to LAX before 7am. We were flying southwest and had checked in the day before right at the buzzer, the instant we were allowed to, but still ended up in C group. When we finally lined up we […]
The City of (not sun) Light
Our train arrived in Paris after sunset and we tried to use the “easy” subway system we experienced in London and Brussels but were quickly stymied by a glitchy machine that wouldn’t keep English selected past the initial screen. Kind of a problem for figuring out what to buy. Belgium even had a guy walking […]
They Should all be Belgian Fries Instead
We reached Brussels before sunset, perfect for checking out the Bourse Christmas Market. We’d picked the right lodging in some ways and the worst in others. The hotel was right next to the market and the hub of the city, but it was also somehow very loud at night with clanging and banging and strange […]
…love…
The Stars is not my style but Saltillo is AWESOME!!!
I’m still listening to it until now.
=( This is the first “album” I’ve actually bought in a long time. Nick is really talented (and nice, he actually emailed me back when I asked him about the name).
I think Ogawa’s stuff is actually more my style. The technogoth stuff wears thin a little later on the Saltillo album… but Ogawa’s album is pretty good all the way through….
I’ll give it another shot but I can tell that it’s more your style after being in your car a coupla times or listening to the music on your laptop.
Oh, my bad! I listened to the wrong song last time but it was also from Ogawa. I DO like “To The Stars”.
As you can see, I even wrote wrong name on my first comment which has nothing to do with his other song I listened to. How ignorant of me!?
I think I heard you play this song before and was thinking of asking you who it was but I forgot.
yesh, I played it while you were cooking maybe….
by the way, I have to give credit where credit is due… Byron found both of these people.
You kids with your “modern music”! In my day we listened to the bugs and the rocks–that’s the way it was and we liked it, we loved it!
