{"id":1083,"date":"2009-05-26T17:51:41","date_gmt":"2009-05-27T01:51:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.andrewlorenzlong.com\/?p=1083"},"modified":"2009-05-26T15:06:13","modified_gmt":"2009-05-26T23:06:13","slug":"wtf-southwest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.andrewlorenzlong.com\/?p=1083","title":{"rendered":"WTF, southwest?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My friend in Berlin gave me the not-so-good word today that he&#8217;ll have another visitor during the time we&#8217;d tentatively planned to have me visit in August.\u00a0 As I&#8217;m in\u00a0school right now, my schedule isn&#8217;t very flexible, so for now, going to visit him is totally off the plate, at least until next August.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So, I figured I&#8217;d turn this great tragedy of our time into a chance to visit Byron and check out his new place in Seattle (and I&#8217;ve never been to Seattle).<\/p>\n<p>I went to Southwest&#8217;s website after checking travelocity.\u00a0 The cheapest travelocity flight was $138.\u00a0 I went on Southwest and found a flight there and a flight back each for $69.\u00a0 I thought &#8220;great, nice, low fares, they&#8217;re right!&#8221; (even though it was technically the same price)<\/p>\n<p>WRONG&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Check out this screenshot of my ticket price before and after (note the hilarious &#8220;no hidden fees&#8221; banner ad on this page&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"SW\" src=\"http:\/\/lh4.ggpht.com\/_ft-qCjvrMks\/ShxycbFOZ5I\/AAAAAAAAAGg\/YTZbE_gEPo0\/s800\/hiddenfees1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"654\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I had to be rushed to hospital because the irony killed me when I saw the next page.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"SW\" src=\"http:\/\/lh4.ggpht.com\/_ft-qCjvrMks\/Shxycuh9TmI\/AAAAAAAAAGk\/CwoSJI54Olo\/s800\/hiddenfees2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"426\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Uh&#8230; $166??!!\u00a0 No hidden fees?\u00a0\u00a0 Truth in Marketing FAIL&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll stick with Travelocities total of $138 AFTER taxes and BS &#8220;fees&#8221; thank you.<\/p>\n<p>I looked up <a href=\"http:\/\/www.southwest.com\/nohiddenfees\/\" target=\"_blank\">Southwest&#8217;s page <\/a>for their &#8220;no hidden fees&#8221; campaign and check this out:\u00a0 All the &#8220;fees&#8221; they&#8217;re talking about are totally optional and (ironically) ones I&#8217;ve never ever experienced&#8230;ever.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve never had to pay extra to sit by the window (I always try to sit there).\u00a0 I&#8217;m smart enough to check out the baggage policy before I fly &#8211; although I try to fly light so it isn&#8217;t a problem anyway.\u00a0 Snack fee?\u00a0 The only airline that did that was Skybus, but that was because we could get a Columbus to Burbank flight for $50!\u00a0 (and they&#8217;ve been out of business for a year now anyway)<\/p>\n<p>by the way, what is PFO?\u00a0 Giving a fee an acronym certainly seems like a good way to &#8220;hide&#8221;
