{"id":1291,"date":"2009-08-09T07:58:53","date_gmt":"2009-08-09T15:58:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.andrewlorenzlong.com\/?p=1291"},"modified":"2009-08-12T08:13:57","modified_gmt":"2009-08-12T16:13:57","slug":"saturday-in-seattle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.andrewlorenzlong.com\/?p=1291","title":{"rendered":"Saturday in Seattle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Saturday, for the first meal of the day (I&#8217;m refusing to call anything after noon &#8220;breakfast&#8221;),\u00a0we walked to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seattle-eats.com\/coastalkitchen\/aboutck\/\" target=\"_blank\">Coastal Kitchen<\/a>for some really great Mexican inspired scrambled eggs and hash browns.\u00a0 On the way there we passed the very first &#8220;starbucks experiment.&#8221;\u00a0 For those not in the know, Starbucks has become aware that it is now associated with &#8220;large corporations&#8221; and so it is rebranding select stores across the country to be devoid of the Starbucks name.\u00a0 This one (the first in the experiment)\u00a0was renamed &#8220;15th Avenue Coffee &amp; Tea&#8221; since it was on 15th avenue (and sold coffee and tea).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/lh6.ggpht.com\/_ft-qCjvrMks\/SoJeB4IsOLI\/AAAAAAAAAiw\/33Vy3xJHxIs\/s800\/saturday1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"663\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/lh3.ggpht.com\/_ft-qCjvrMks\/SoJeCtnC9SI\/AAAAAAAAAi4\/wjuAgwfLUYk\/s800\/saturday3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In addition to the delicious breakfast, Coastal Kitchen offered us up some <em>Marion Berry <\/em>to wake up and get energized.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Marion_Barry\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/lh3.ggpht.com\/_ft-qCjvrMks\/SoJeCTU_pQI\/AAAAAAAAAi0\/2VY6mc6UvSI\/s800\/saturday2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"797\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We loaded up on carbs because we intended to go on a hiking adventure.\u00a0 We hiked down to the pier and boarded a ferry to Bremerton because Bainbridge seemed like it was all shopping.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/lh4.ggpht.com\/_ft-qCjvrMks\/SoJeDeSs-OI\/AAAAAAAAAjA\/qs8AklqD5Ck\/s800\/saturday5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We kept seeing these neon things in the water.\u00a0 Before long we realized they were jellyfish.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/lh6.ggpht.com\/_ft-qCjvrMks\/SoJeDvDFO_I\/AAAAAAAAAjE\/rpmuw9w_cvw\/s800\/saturday6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"354\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When we got off the ferry we went into the hampton inn and tried to get some information from the front desk.\u00a0 They were really rude for some reason, but eventually produced a xeroxed hand-drawn map pointing us toward &#8220;evergreen park&#8221;&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>After walking through neighborhoods decimated by the economy (?) we made it to a very small park with some evergreens.\u00a0 We went down to the water and noticed a plethora of hermit crabs and snails.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/lh5.ggpht.com\/_ft-qCjvrMks\/SoJeD4n3-pI\/AAAAAAAAAjI\/41H4TQ41eww\/s800\/saturday7.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"425\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/lh5.ggpht.com\/_ft-qCjvrMks\/SoJeEfvtWKI\/AAAAAAAAAjM\/f_cyYt6tqtI\/s800\/saturday8.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We took a different route back through the town.\u00a0 Passing by the beautiful Bremerton Flower Program (note the sarcasm &#8211; to the left of this picture, the other side of the garden, was just dirt):<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/lh5.ggpht.com\/_ft-qCjvrMks\/SoJeExOvcCI\/AAAAAAAAAjQ\/IXlWrKvECB4\/s800\/saturday9.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"455\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We walked into the heart of Bremerton, but the only souls we encounterred were those of the ominous seagulls and crows cackling overhead.\u00a0 As we traversed the hills we fully expected to be greeted by a mob of zombies.\u00a0 This photo was taken in the center of town.\u00a0 In which nobody was around.\u00a0 At 6pm.\u00a0 On a Saturday.\u00a0 In the middle of town.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/lh3.ggpht.com\/_ft-qCjvrMks\/SoJeFVMD5CI\/AAAAAAAAAjU\/W0cIS_YzQJ4\/s800\/saturday10.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We got back to the dock and discovered that we&#8217;d have to wait another hour to take the ferry back.\u00a0 We were trapped in the ghost town for dinner.\u00a0 We ate at the local pizza shop, helmed by 3 brothers who looked like they hadn&#8217;t had a customer all day.<\/p>\n<p>After deboating the ferry we hiked up to the space needle.\u00a0 It was a saturday night, so the needle was flush with tourists, but the crowd management was impeccable compared to my (shitty) experience at the Empire State Building.\u00a0 We took some night photos of Seattle.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/lh4.ggpht.com\/_ft-qCjvrMks\/SoJeFkLnTJI\/AAAAAAAAAjY\/GH_90glMKng\/s800\/saturday11.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"355\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/lh6.ggpht.com\/_ft-qCjvrMks\/SoJeF8Qs6NI\/AAAAAAAAAjc\/tNtQvPDv-lc\/s800\/saturday12.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I forgot my gorillapod and so I borrowed Byron&#8217;s.\u00a0 However, his was designed differently and somewhere between 520&#8242; in the air and his apartment on Capital Hill I lost the little &#8220;slider&#8221; piece, making my gorillapod worthless.\u00a0 I think that was my only casualty of the trip.<\/p>\n<p>While we were goofing around at the base I took some shots of the needle.\u00a0 I&#8217;d noted earlier on the ferry how low the clouds were; like we could jump up and touch them.\u00a0 Well, when I looked at my photo (not the one\u00a0below)\u00a0I realized that we could see the shadow of the needle on the clouds above from the spotlights below.\u00a0 The shadow was crisp &#8211;
