{"id":1526,"date":"2009-12-02T17:07:38","date_gmt":"2009-12-03T01:07:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.andrewlorenzlong.com\/?p=1526"},"modified":"2009-12-02T15:34:45","modified_gmt":"2009-12-02T23:34:45","slug":"what","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.andrewlorenzlong.com\/?p=1526","title":{"rendered":"what?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was on my way to the kitchen at the office today to get my water bottle\u00a0and I saw\u00a0a middle aged woman in a dour\u00a0green winter coat\u00a0coming\u00a0 through the front door.\u00a0 She looked rather haggard, with long untreated dirty blond hair and a pained face.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We don&#8217;t have a receptionist at that door.\u00a0 It usually isn&#8217;t a problem as it is a high (internal) traffic corridor at the meeting of two hallways that contain all of the offices of the executives and also right beside our conference room.\u00a0\u00a0Nobody else was around though so I started to walk toward her.\u00a0 She was holding a card and read it for a moment.\u00a0 This is common for a delivery person or utility service person, which we see here a lot.\u00a0 Since I was already walking that way I appointed myself as the greeter and guide&#8230;which usually consists of &#8220;oh, Bill is the fourth door on the right down that hallway.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Not today.<\/p>\n<p>When I walked up she thrust the card in her hands at me:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 1px solid;\" src=\"http:\/\/lh4.ggpht.com\/_ft-qCjvrMks\/SxbzUgOn5SI\/AAAAAAAAA6A\/hfSJ1L4Fkw4\/s800\/deafmutecard.gif.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"244\" height=\"185\" \/><\/p>\n<p>What would you do?\u00a0 I felt many emotions at once.\u00a0 Obviously SAYING &#8220;oh, I have no change\/bills\/etc.&#8221; won&#8217;t work with someone deaf&#8230; In the split second that I had in which to decide what to do I opened up my wallet and saw a $1 bill and a $20 bill.\u00a0 You can guess which one I offered up.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She said &#8220;anch ooo&#8221;
