{"id":1547,"date":"2009-12-10T06:39:48","date_gmt":"2009-12-10T14:39:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.andrewlorenzlong.com\/?p=1547"},"modified":"2009-12-10T14:07:04","modified_gmt":"2009-12-10T22:07:04","slug":"scans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.andrewlorenzlong.com\/?p=1547","title":{"rendered":"scans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today on my lunch break I took my sketch book and scanned in some of my favorite sketches from the past six months.\u00a0 Some of these I posted shoddy camera shots of back in August (?) and some are newer.\u00a0 Some will become paintings later &#8211; and some will not&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The real reason for scanning these is that I&#8217;m working on a new version of the website that will be much much much easier for me to update.\u00a0 I haven&#8217;t got any good shots of my newer (as in 2009) paintings, but I can at least share these sketches.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/lh4.ggpht.com\/_ft-qCjvrMks\/SyFpqWzJ2rI\/AAAAAAAAA-g\/YovqFPTGfLY\/s800\/ribbonmansketchbig.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"589\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This will be a painting at some point.\u00a0 It is calling out for a large work &#8211; but I&#8217;m procrastinating and working on many other pieces before I&#8217;ll tackle this guy.\u00a0 I guess he&#8217;s sort of a &#8220;sequel&#8221; to the the ribbon girl I did a few months ago.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/lh5.ggpht.com\/_ft-qCjvrMks\/SyFpqw7oDDI\/AAAAAAAAA-o\/G1uEU8vpOnU\/s800\/kangaroobabysketchbig.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"475\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This one reminds me of Amy Sol&#8217;s work a tiny bit, so I&#8217;ll probably paint this on one of the wooden panels I have.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/lh3.ggpht.com\/_ft-qCjvrMks\/SyFprHlJ7vI\/AAAAAAAAA-w\/ynFWqf6KZt0\/s800\/spaceboysketchbig.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This one has two separate ideas overlapping two pages of the sketchbook.\u00a0 I really like the on on the left.\u00a0 The giant eyeball and crab hands seem much more curious.\u00a0 I changed the boy from a baby into a young man with a helmet too.\u00a0 The larger one is less developed, but you get the idea.\u00a0 The alien was turned into more of a &#8220;devil&#8221; so you could see more emotion.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/lh3.ggpht.com\/_ft-qCjvrMks\/SyFprgtvREI\/AAAAAAAAA-4\/loVsYx9il6M\/s800\/astrobabybig.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"369\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This one will become a painting one day as well.\u00a0 This is my favorite from the &#8220;Astronaut and baby&#8221; series of sketches.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/lh3.ggpht.com\/_ft-qCjvrMks\/SyFpsDhx4qI\/AAAAAAAAA_A\/FeJuuz2fxtg\/s800\/birdsketchbig.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"455\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>professor Byrd.\u00a0 Supposed to have a chain around his neck, but it&#8217;s hard to see, isn&#8217;t it?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/lh4.ggpht.com\/_ft-qCjvrMks\/SyFpsjIcDHI\/AAAAAAAAA_I\/J7CCKHaQ-Gc\/s800\/dancersketchbig.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"463\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I love drawing hands.\u00a0 although I like feet too, I like hands much better, so one day (while in Seattle) I kept sketching these women with hands for feet.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/lh4.ggpht.com\/_ft-qCjvrMks\/SyFptM2G_VI\/AAAAAAAAA_Q\/lI2PrnF0KD4\/s800\/azteksketchbig.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"412\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This was the first &#8220;real&#8221; sketch in the new sketchbook.\u00a0 Sort of a return to my old comic book character drawing days.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/lh3.ggpht.com\/_ft-qCjvrMks\/SyFptmg_OqI\/AAAAAAAAA_Y\/6EijrjFgwcU\/s800\/astrobaby2big.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"458\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The first sketch of the &#8220;Astronaut and boy&#8221; series.\u00a0 Isn&#8217;t his suit awesome?\u00a0 He&#8217;s got fat Bender legs, a patriotic star shoulder and a WWF championship belt.\u00a0 the boy here was drawn intentionally a little &#8220;alien&#8221; so the viewer doesn&#8217;t know if this is the start of an embrace, or regarding an alien specimen (holding it at arm&#8217;s length) trying to attack.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/lh4.ggpht.com\/_ft-qCjvrMks\/SyFpuD9SCRI\/AAAAAAAAA_g\/JR-4AUvedUY\/s800\/finalssketchbig.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"431\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I sketched this in five minutes before going to my last Finance class.\u00a0 I suppose it isn&#8217;t finished, but I&#8217;ll probably not go back into it.\u00a0 The most interesting part for me was the head\/face and that&#8217;s done already.\u00a0 You can use your imagination to fill in the rest&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/lh6.ggpht.com\/_ft-qCjvrMks\/SyFputGKfHI\/AAAAAAAAA_o\/a1ooS-O3v1k\/s800\/floatingwomanbig.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"505\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here is a short sketch I did while waiting for a script writing partner at the woodland hills orange line stop in September.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/lh4.ggpht.com\/_ft-qCjvrMks\/SyFpp-qrItI\/AAAAAAAAA-U\/S9-wrmViKJs\/s800\/birdchestpainting-copy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"667\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Last but not least, this is a photoshop collage of two sketches done on transparency paper in preparation for the painting I&#8217;m currently working on.\u00a0 I know he looks kinda like Jesus (maybe) here, but he won&#8217;t look like that in the final painting.\u00a0 The Owl has metamorphosized a bit since this sketch too.\u00a0 I spent four hours painting the Owl on Tuesday only to realize that the shape was all wrong because the body was stretched like a cat.\u00a0 I&#8217;d used freehand sketching with a light grid to set it up, and somewhere something went wrong.\u00a0 So I had to white-out the Owl and start from scratch.\u00a0 You&#8217;ll probably have to wait a month to see the results as this one is on a 4&#8217;x3&#8242; canvas.\u00a0 I&#8217;m also painting on top of a paper collage cemented to canvas this time instead of directly on canvas.\u00a0 I find this gives the work more &#8220;personality,&#8221; especially in cases like this where there is a lot of symbolism and the paper (in this case pages from a book) can add meaning to the work.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today on my lunch break I took my sketch book and scanned in some of my favorite sketches from the past six months.\u00a0 Some of these I posted shoddy camera shots of back in August (?) and some are newer.\u00a0 Some will become paintings later &#8211;
