This is a drawing that I’ve been working on for a few months.\u00a0 A larger image is in the “drawing” section of the web site – easier to see detail than on the image above.\u00a0 I would always come back to this piece when I need a break from painting or I was\u00a0trying to work out a difficult problem in another piece.\u00a0 I got the idea from seeing one of my old business cards upside down.\u00a0 Those of you who remember my old business cards will know what I mean (just imagine all those tentacles are green).\u00a0 I’ve been using my old business cards as little “mini-palettes” so I can get up close to a painting without having to pull back to get more paint.<\/p>\n
I’m calling it cthulhunfinished because the piece fades out on the sides to get you to focus on the “action” at the center.\u00a0 However, it is also fading out because I just didn’t want to finish those parts because they weren’t any fun and I hadn’t worked out what I’d do beforehand.\u00a0 The waves, mountains, etc. are all afterthoughts.\u00a0 The wings too – which I originally drew in improper perspective (the one on the right was much closer) until Sam corrected me.<\/p>\n
I may have this painting in the upcoming show, but I won’t know until this weekend.\u00a0 I got a frame for it yesterday, but I don’t know if it was the best choice, or how I’m going to crop it (the photo you see above is cropped from a 14×17 sheet of paper.\u00a0 In the uncropped version there is another part of the boat with a shadowy figure and a huge monster arm reaching up out of the water (to reinforce this is Cthulhu and not a weird octopus).<\/p>\n
