Birthday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Friday night Sam and I went to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.providencela.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Providence<\/a> for her birthday. \u00a0She&#8217;d picked out the restaurant from yelp a few weeks earlier. \u00a0We parked down the street and noted that for such a nice restaurant it was in a bit of an iffy part of town. \u00a0Inside the place appeared like a modern caricature\u00a0of a hipster high class restaurant. \u00a0A man at another table wore a pinstriped suit and a mullet mohawk. \u00a0As the sun set and the atmosphere changed, our waiter appeared and helped us choose our dinner. \u00a0When the menu came it started with &#8220;happy birthday sam.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The photos that follow are cell-phone camera photos taken in a very dark room, except for the few that Sam turned on her bright flash for (and was too embarrassed to do it many more times).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net\/hphotos-ash3\/921000_10200689729222319_204652134_o.jpg\" width=\"587\" height=\"440\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We chose the prefixed menu (appetizer+main course+dessert). \u00a0Before our appetizers came the waiter brought a surprise from the chef: two strips of baked salmon skin (yes!) and a lobster cream paste to dip them in. \u00a0In addition to this we were given a tiny piece of bread with some kind of Parmesan sauce on top. \u00a0They also mixed some kind of milky fruity hibiscus drink in a shot glass in front of us to wash the very salty salmon skin down with.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net\/hphotos-ak-ash4\/459347_10200689733222419_78617613_o.jpg\" width=\"587\" height=\"783\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Next up was the bread. \u00a0We were offered regular bread, bacon bread and seaweed bread. \u00a0They were all good, but the best part was the cylinder of butter, just warm enough to spread perfectly on the bread, but just cold enough to not melt on the plate.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net\/hphotos-ak-ash4\/473486_10200689737742532_827477069_o.jpg\" width=\"587\" height=\"440\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For my appetizer I&#8217;d picked the &#8220;chowda.&#8221; \u00a0Out came a bowl with leeks and other things sitting in it. \u00a0After a few seconds of confusion the waiter brought out a flask and began pouring in the soup. \u00a0The resulting chowder was probably the best either of us has ever tasted. \u00a0It had too many different little vegetables and spices to count.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net\/hphotos-ak-ash4\/459697_10200689744942712_124477783_o.jpg\" width=\"587\" height=\"440\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sam had ordered the crab appetizer, which was very good too, but a little too sweet and not nearly as good as the chowder.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net\/hphotos-ak-ash4\/468361_10200689752182893_173502840_o.jpg\" width=\"587\" height=\"440\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For my main course I&#8217;d picked the ginger salmon. \u00a0The best thing about this dish for Sam was the flower arrangement of the vegetables on the plate. \u00a0The best thing for me was the delicious sweet ginger sauce and the sweet salmon, baked on the outside and still sashimi-like on the inside.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net\/hphotos-ak-frc1\/905395_10200689757583028_1145227784_o.jpg\" width=\"587\" height=\"783\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sam&#8217;s main course was a very sweet lobster tail. \u00a0The presentation was great and it tasted good, albeit a bit too sweet for either of our tastes. \u00a0I suspect if it was paired with rice or pasta the sweetness would have been diluted just a tad and it would have been more palatable.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.net\/hphotos-ak-prn1\/921498_10200689761663130_1036300889_o.jpg\" width=\"587\" height=\"783\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The last bit was dessert. \u00a0And you already know, Sam picked the chocolate.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net\/hphotos-ak-ash4\/465343_10200689770943362_301868566_o.jpg\" width=\"587\" height=\"783\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The chocolate was light on the ice cream and heavy on the salted caramel. \u00a0I like caramel more than Sam, but neither of us likes salted caramel that much. \u00a0The dessert would have been perfect if they downplayed the caramel and just put more of the chocolate cookies and ice cream in there.<\/p>\n<p>Although we dredged up a few complaints, all the food was delicious, the wait staff was more than pleasant, and the presentation of the food was immaculate. \u00a0 I&#8217;m used to complaining about not getting what you pay for with places like this (three digits per person), but this one I would recommend for special occasions for anyone that wants something unique, filling and tasty.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday one of Sam&#8217;s friends from Thailand took us (and three other friends) out to dinner at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mozzarestaurantgroup.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Mozza<\/a>. \u00a0 \u00a0The polenta: not so good. \u00a0The Inky squid thing, short ribs and linguine (at least I think it was linguine) were all very good. \u00a0Sam ordered the chocolate cake for deser \u00a0It was a weekend full of good
