{"id":2626,"date":"2014-02-16T18:50:40","date_gmt":"2014-02-17T02:50:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.andrewlorenzlong.com\/?p=2626"},"modified":"2014-03-06T20:37:59","modified_gmt":"2014-03-07T04:37:59","slug":"oahu-pop-art","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.andrewlorenzlong.com\/?p=2626","title":{"rendered":"Oahu Pop Art"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">(more and higher resolution photos\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/andrewlong\/sets\/72157641818733885\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0On Saturday morning we headed to the Costco at Sam\u2019s request. \u00a0As a consolation prize we got to go to the beach across the street.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3781\/12919256213_908ec36afc_c.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3715\/12896385875_671ac9ecf0_c.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7336\/12896804094_e294199b44_c.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">After the beach we headed back to Hilo the way we\u2019d come, this time stopping at the Mauna Kea visitor\u2019s center for some clear views.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"HAa Eha\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/-jabfBhmS1Xg\/UxQUOgLM2PI\/AAAAAAAAK5s\/Oh9d8_-gbjg\/w600-h450-no\/P1060266.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"HAa Eha\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/-dmlV0mP2hhI\/UxQUPPVpnuI\/AAAAAAAAK58\/RV-WVfwIH8k\/w600-h450-no\/P1060270.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7385\/12906696174_1ecc0d30bf.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3821\/12896403895_a444cc20ac.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On the plane we flew past the mountaintop.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3745\/12919321533_b2f4af543b.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">After checking into our AirBnB in Waikiki we took the #19 bus to the honolulu <a href=\"http:\/\/arrestedmotion.com\/tag\/pow-wow-14\/\" target=\"_blank\">pow wow art festival<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7323\/12896548253_ca3fbb8fa0.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">It was a little bit like the art walk in Los Angeles, but smaller and more dense. \u00a0The food was incredible, though. \u00a0We ordered some mix plates at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.habilitat.com\/all-kine-grindz.html\" target=\"_blank\">All Kine Grindz<\/a> and I had the best crab cakes I can remember.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7443\/12896551773_dd3719fa1c.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">While waiting for our dinner to be cooked I noticed that the mural across the street looked like a James Jean piece. \u00a0It turns out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.streetartnews.net\/2014\/02\/james-jean-new-mural-for-pow-wow-hawaii.html\" target=\"_blank\">I was right<\/a> &#8211; it was James\u2019 first mural ever and done for this very event. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.streetartnews.net\/2014\/02\/james-jean-new-mural-for-pow-wow-hawaii.html\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The weird thing was that it was being hidden behind a trash dumpster.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.staticflickr.com\/2869\/12896468925_5c559d0d18_c.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Our BnB was on the 12th floor of what used to be a condominium but was now sectioned out into vacation rentals. \u00a0We were very close to the Hyatt across the street from Waikiki beach.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.staticflickr.com\/2892\/12896576253_337d603457.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(more and higher resolution photos\u00a0here) \u00a0On Saturday morning we headed to the Costco at Sam\u2019s request. \u00a0As a consolation prize we got to go to the beach across the street.
