I\u2019m watching the scene on the ridge where we throw all our military might at the aliens and they just keep on coming.  Well\u2026 wouldn\u2019t our military leaders be smart enough to figure out that if we can\u2019t hurt them directly\u2026.we should bury them?  I.e. blow up the ground under their feet.  If the tripods have nothing to stand on then they can\u2019t move.  Immobilization seems quite easy.  We can fly, they cannot.    At the point in the film that we get to meet Ogilvy the military has had a full day to figure it out \u2013 but they are still sending humvees at them.   All these things are why I still don\u2019t like the decision to set the movie in modern times.  Why was this necessary?
