This morning we ate breakfast at Coyotes Southwestern Grill. Sam liked the Huevos Rancheros, but I found a big blue wet string in my pancake butter (after already putting a knife to it). The waitress explained that they keep the butter next to the wash rags. Uh-huh. Excellent. That was the last straw. Or string, as it were. We mostly stayed out of the restaurants after that. Most of our eating from then on came from the local IGA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We went up the hill to visit Tunnel Mountain overlook on our way out of town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-flickr wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/QZWiCh\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/355\/32160760476_3850958d05_z.jpg\" alt=\"_DSC1893\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><figcaption>She wanted us to sit in those chairs. I was worried if we sat down our butts would melt the snow and then freeze us there permanently.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-flickr wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/PLYHGj\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/542\/31357760454_75c846e4c8_z.jpg\" alt=\"_DSC1916\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><figcaption>Icefields Parkway living up to the name&#8230;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We snacked on the <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alberta_Highway_93#Icefields_Parkway\" target=\"_blank\">Icefields Parkway<\/a> to <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Peyto_Lake\" target=\"_blank\">Peyto Lake<\/a>, arriving late enough in the afternoon to avoid most other human beings but still enjoy the easy loop by the famous lookout made more difficult by thickening snowfall. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-flickr wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/PLYJEb\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/417\/31357763694_7f232e8a49_z.jpg\" alt=\"_DSC1925\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><figcaption>This is another super famous Instagram spot, but not looking like this, that brilliant blue lake covered in snow.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most of the trail had been compacted by snowshoeing and cross-country skiers\u00a0(a few of which narrowly missed us as they barrelled through the narrow white tunnels between pines), but every now and then we&#8217;d hit a soft patch and slip into snow up to our knees.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> At one point Sam gave up trying to fight it and did a gleeful backflip into a snowbank.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-flickr wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/R4kEzc\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/722\/32199268005_7010d8fdff_z.jpg\" alt=\"_DSC1993\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><figcaption>She put a lot more thought into how to get into this situation than how to get out of it.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-flickr wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/PPJPM4\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/404\/31388998833_4a999c99b8_z.jpg\" alt=\"_DSC1979-2\" width=\"640\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><figcaption>But flexibility makes it easy to get out of sticky situations.
