We decided to nurse our headaches by staying in town (and indoors). An ancillary driver of this decision was a snowstorm descending on Banff that would have made any hiking or sightseeing difficult.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-flickr wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/QSUeQ8\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/698\/32081142011_2f8a82eac5_z.jpg\" alt=\"_DSC2225\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><figcaption>Cave and Basin is just kinda, well, this.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After a short visit to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pc.gc.ca\/eng\/lhn-nhs\/ab\/caveandbasin\/index.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cave and Basin<\/a> we walked along the main avenue and did our souvenir shopping.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We later visited<a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.banff.com\/banff-helpers\/things-to-do-in-banff\/surprise-corner-view-the-fairmont-banff-springs-hotel\/\" target=\"_blank\"> surprise corner<\/a> for (supposedly) the best view of the Fairmont. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-flickr wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/QSUhEM\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/518\/32081151561_541887db12_z.jpg\" alt=\"_DSC2235\" width=\"640\" height=\"410\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><figcaption>Surprise, there&#8217;s a hotel in town!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We warmed up again with spicy (for Canada) Thai soup and noticed that the Royal Hotel down the street was closed down.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-flickr wp-block-embed is-type-photo is-provider-flickr\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/R4mLPp\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/418\/32199484125_7ecf59001b_z.jpg\" alt=\"_DSC2243\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a>\n<\/div><figcaption>Further inspection (and news reports) revealed there&#8217;d been a <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/3151438\/crews-battle-fire-at-banffs-historic-mount-royal-hotel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"fire earlier in the day (opens in a new tab)\">fire earlier in the day<\/a>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our drinking habits caught up with us on the sixth day.
