Auden\">W.H. Auden<\/a> today that I had to read a few times.<\/p>\n<p><i>If equal affection cannot be, let the more loving one be me.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>I suppose that was my philosophy in the last year.  It didn&#8217;t work out too well, but when I find someone who appreciates that part of me &#8211; maybe I&#8217;ll be rewarded with the same sentiment.<\/p>\n<p>The full poem is even more fitting, and coincidentally mirrors my long blog entry on Monday:<\/p>\n<p><i>Looking up at the stars, I know quite well<br \/>\nThat, for all they care, I can go to hell,<br \/>\nBut on earth indifference is the least<br \/>\nWe have to dread from man or beast.<br \/>\nHow should we like it were stars to burn<br \/>\nWith a passion for us we could not return?<br \/>\nIf equal affection cannot be,<br \/>\nLet the more loving one be me. <\/p>\n<p>Admirer as I think I am<br \/>\nOf stars that do not give a damn,<br \/>\nI cannot, now I see them, say<br \/>\nI missed one terribly all day. <\/p>\n<p>Were all stars to disappear or die,<br \/>\nI should learn to look at an empty sky<br \/>\nAnd feel its total dark sublime,<br \/>\nThough this might take me a little time.<\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I happened upon a quote by W.H.
