On Sunday for lack of a better plan Byron and I headed to Gruene<\/a> for some river tubing<\/a>. Gruene’s claim to fame is that several local hangouts (which basically means ALL of them) were used in the filming of Michael<\/a>. <\/p>\n

I remember that movie because I went with a girl I was dating for a bit in high school who had long black hair and went to a different school. She was obsessed with John Travolta. I wrote a song about that girl and now I can’t even remember her name. One of the lyrics was something about her being 17… so she must have been 17 at the time. I think her name was Jessica… but I can’t be sure. We had one french kiss under a black light and that was about all there was to that relationship. If only I could become inspired to create so easily these days.<\/p>\n

anyway – back to Texas:<\/p>\n

The ride alternated back and forth from slow floating to choppy rapids. We paid extra for the tubes with “bottoms.” At first I thought we were just being wussies – but those rocks hurt when they plow into your ass even if you’ve got a layer of plastic in between! We ended up seeing not one, not two, not… okay – we saw four young deer come to drink at the side of the river on our trip and we saw innumerable turtles and dragonflies. At the end of our journey there was an old scraggly man in shorts and a baseball cap waiting for us with an ancient school bus. As we bounced around the bus driving through deep woods on a dirt road next to a Texas river we felt like we were in a deleted scene from Deliverance<\/a> (yes, I know that wasn’t Texas!).<\/p>\n
