I’ve been saying this for a while

  1. In the world of medical/health research – until relatively recently females were left out of research. Give some time for women’s health to catch up in terms of research dollars. Much of medical treatment today is still based on research done entirely on males. Watch for much more to come in terms of research for women in cardiovascular, pulmonary, etc Breast health is only the begining of the need.
But yes I do think the pink fad is overboard.

  2. I was strongarmed today into signing up for the company cancer cure walk next month. Unless my memory is bad (and it usually isn’t) this wasn’t specifically for breast cancer in the past. Today I went to the website to sign up and sure enough they added “for breast cancer” at the bottom of the old logo and changed all the colors on the site to pink… and now my “donation” goes entirely to breast cancer.

If males have been so over-researched why do we still go bald and you have birth control pills?

  3. aquilanda–any, you know, facts to back that up? I guess if you stab a male in the heart, and he dies, you need a gov. grant to see if the same results would apply if you stabbed a female in the heart? I missed the part where all that free money that we males got from you females (is my assumption correct?) to “cure” prostate cancer worked out so well for us selfish “men”.

  4. Look, if every disease/affliction is caused by an errant genetic trait – why don’t we just pour all our money into genetic research?

I say that somewhat sarcastically because the truth is – one corporation OWNS the “gene” that causes breast cancer. That means that anyone doing research on breast cancer has to buy pay royalties first. How about instead of painting everything pink – we have a national discussion about that?

  5. LMAO at bigdaddydj. I love that.

The amount of money that is spent on curing cancers (breast cancer especially) has always made me livid. It’s more important in our society that we prevent people from dying prematurely than working to prevent Autism from affecting so many children. Autism affects more children than any other childhood related disease but doesn’t receive the same amount of funding for its research. Yes, it’s a shame that children die, but Autistic children are going to live a very, VERY long time in their condition creating a huge financial burden on society because many of these children will not be able to care for themselves as adults. And the number of children diagnosed with Autism every year just keeps growing and growing. THAT, is a true injustice.

Oops, went off on a rant there.

I thought that as a man you would be supportive of a cause that helps keep boobies healthy. Have you felt some boobies today? (he he)

  6. we already have a good lead as to what the cause of autism is. unfortunately, it is not currently socially acceptable as a reason: cell phone use while pregnant, and allowing babies to watch too much TV.

but that would imply some responsibility from the parents, so we will continue to waste time and money to find a “cure” to something that is incurable.

also, exactly what breakthroughs in “mens” health are there that was gotten at the expense of women?

  7. Check the history books. Medical research used young healthy males for most studies for many years. It was assumed that symptomology, illness, and response to treatment would be the same for each gender. Now appropriate research looks for gender difference as well as genetics, age. etc.

  8. Burke and Hare would dispute that. Anyway “gender” refers to a noun class–check Latin 101 (as well as your history books). Gender is not biological. Lots of medical advances came about from selfish young men getting stuff blown off their bodies on the battlefield–that led directly to plastic boobies……..ummmm boobies….
