Thursday night I had my final final of my first term of grad school. The test was extremely hard even after studying for two weeks and going to multiple study group sessions.
After the test I jetted off to meet Aaron, Caleb, Ethan and Roman at the Echo for the Budos Band show.
The first act was Boogaloo Assassins. I don’t know exactly what kind of music this was. I think it was a mix of a bunch of things, and some covers from different Cuban/Latin genres.
here is a crappy cell phone picture. Call me a racist but the frontman on the right reminded me a lot of Hootie McGuffin or whatever his name is.
Their performance/sound was very similar to this clip of them at The Mint (I recognize some of the songs in this clip as those that were also played last night):
They played for about 45 minutes (till about 10:50pm) and then headed off stage.
When Budos Band finally started up it was 11:20pm. Keep in mind that The Echo is on the other side of Los Angeles from my home, I had to be at work the next morning and I’d just taken the Final exam from hell – after two hours of class first. So, I left around 11:45 after three songs. A shame since Budos Band is actually pretty amazing live (and the tickets were $14). Just check out this clip from another live show somewhere else. Last night sounded about the same…

ooooo . . . I like Boogaloo Assassins 🙂
AAAAAWWWWWWright! #1 on google with”Hootie McGuffin”. Boo Ass’es sound like Miami Sound Machine by way of Santana (not Santayana).
