Wrapped up the weekend by having lunch with Amy, her mother, and her brother at Mimi’s Cafe. Basically a Max and Erma’s for the west coast.

I posted Saturday that I was making a new version of this site. Well, after showing two of my splash page ideas to Amy I realized that they sort of suck. They were both “too scary” for her, which I initially replied with “well people like YOU don’t go to it anyway.” I then realized that while true – the main focus for traffic on the site won’t be people like Amy – that doesn’t mean the focus should be alienation. So, I decided to scrap the visual for the splash pages and start over. Besides…I couldn’t decide how to make them work within the negative space anyway.

If you want to see one of the failures click here. To see what I settled on to probably be the real splash page click here. Note that this page actually links to a (somewhat) working version of the 90% finished new version 8 website. From the menu area on the rest of the website you can see what I was going for with the original “failure” splash page.

Comments are welcome

oh yeah – why am I up so late? Because the morons on my street don’t know how to keep their children from getting their hands blown off… letting your kids shoot off fireworks in an Ohio backyard in a field is one thing, but these inept fools are shooting off rockets with power lines overhead and letting twirly sparklers run across the street…that people drive down… a lot… With all the noise I don’t think I’ll be getting sleep any time soon 🙁

  1. I don’t see anything scary about either but i do think #2 frames better with the more 3d visual. The menu header doesn’t have much contrast on my machine (to much black). I have seen similar problems on other web sites–think of a granny stumbling on the web site for the first time-is the menu clear to her on first viewing? semper fie.
