On Saturday we woke up dark and early before the sun in order to catch our Uber to LAX before 7am. We were flying southwest and had checked in the day before right at the buzzer, the instant we were allowed to, but still ended up in C group. When we finally lined up we […]
The City of (not sun) Light
Our train arrived in Paris after sunset and we tried to use the “easy” subway system we experienced in London and Brussels but were quickly stymied by a glitchy machine that wouldn’t keep English selected past the initial screen. Kind of a problem for figuring out what to buy. Belgium even had a guy walking […]
They Should all be Belgian Fries Instead
We reached Brussels before sunset, perfect for checking out the Bourse Christmas Market. We’d picked the right lodging in some ways and the worst in others. The hotel was right next to the market and the hub of the city, but it was also somehow very loud at night with clanging and banging and strange […]
In Flanders Fields
by John McCrae, May 1915
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep,
though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
(cough cough) Photographer: Told you looked like your dad in that photo! Hahah!
And your point is?
I think perhaps the point was that this post was her idea. She noticed the similarities from memory – I don’t know if I would have caught it. I’m inclined to believe the comment was a joke and not mean spirited as it was taken.
Technically on blogs it is common to give credit for a story (i.e. on “thanks to JB for the tip”) – and I did not do so here.
Well, it seemed a little “Nelson-ish” to me. No foul.
I’m assuming you are not referring to Matthew and Gunnar… in which case as it is outside the realm of 90s pop I’m not sure what you are referring to.
Oh wait – Nelson Muntz – no no. I think her “haha” was not one of derision but more along the lines of “cute.” Usually when someone writes “ha” or “lol” or any of that in online communication it is simply a mood indicator and not a literal laughing AT the subject (in a disparaging way). It took me a while to get used to it, but I find myself saying “ha” in IMs a lot – although I still haven’t been able to transition to the “lol” as it seems a bit much…
Woah woah woah… Overwhelmed! You guys are just joking back and forth right? Because it true that I actually find the keen resemblance that the photo captured unintentionally kind of neat. (^-^) Was just trying to claim my idea in a light hearted manner.
Yeah, I think everything is copacetic. If you want to see more pictures where I look eerily similar to my dad I’ve got plenty 😉
