Chin up

It has come to my attention that some comments made on my July 14th entry may have been misinterpreted. “Chins” was referring to the Ch’in Dynasty (or “Qin” in pinyin), not the racial slur “chink.” Death by a thousand cuts, otherwise known as “slow-slicing” was a torture method invented in China and used during the “Imperial Period.” The Qin Dynasty is generally recognized as the first dynasty of this Imperial Period.

  1. My econ prof. “Frank” Chang used to get great fun out of pronouncing his name in the manner he was tuaght as a child ” My name Chin’k–don’t call me chink!” He considered it great fun because the western ears could not hear any difference. Soooo–who is the uneducated one? (he is respected in econ both here and in China)

  2. I actually can’t say who was offended … or if that was the cause. Hard to explain – but I thought that “chins” reference was the most likely culprit. Thought I would just clear it up completely because who knows who ELSE might read it and think the same thing…

  3. You should start a slur-a-pedia so that every racist egoist can tell us just what we cannot say. That would be “mighty white” of you-“oops- I did it again!”. This whole “racist” thing is begining to smell fishy (triple points on that one).
