I’ve known that something was leaking in the kitchen sink for a while. Lately the amount of displaced water has gotten worse and worse so I did some investigating last night. After spending about half an hour prying off the washer (nut???) underneath I was able to pull up the faucet about four inches and examine things. The leak is coming from the actual faucet itself and not the pipes. That means… time to buy a new faucet. Just what I need in the most expensive month in history. The installation isn’t going to be fun – it is one of those three-hole installations – and the other two holes are back behind the sinks – and I’m sure the washers (nuts??) are screwed on just as tight as the main one was…
Also – my kitchen appears to be the only one in history (at least that I’ve seen) that doesn’t have the standard shaped water valve. It just has a knob with no writing and a screw in the middle. I’m going to have to assume I turn it rightward to shut off the water (dad, correct me if I’m wrong here)…?
Also, the pipe joint under the left sink basin is loose (it actually completely popped out when I bumped it wrenching the faucet guts). Not sure what kind of putty/glue/sealant/etc. I’m supposed to be fixing that up with…
Of course, once that was all figured out I opened up the fridge to have a drink and discovered the bulb in there had burnt out.
This is a pretty good article:http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=howTo&p=Repair/RepFaucet.html
A basin wrench works real well but most people just wing it. As for the valve–don’t know what you have but, yes, all valves have right hand screws. Do you have a main shut off valve?
The internet isn’t a big place I guess – I found the lowes article this morning.
I don’t think there is a main shutoff valve for the place.
Do you have any recommendations for sealing that other pipe?
