Moore money

Last weekend I finally saw Fahrenheit 9/11. Now, I debated with myself for a long time (a week apparently) whether I should write a review or not. I think my review would probably be pointless since many people I know are just going to lambaste it without even seeing it based on the Republican talking points provided to/by FoxNews. I agree that Moore’s style isn’t the most objective, but it was never intended to be. The ironic thing is that he never goes any farther than Bush does in his television and radio ad campaigns. Those of us who have to listen to clearchannel all day are used to hearing the truth stretched. In fact, it is ironic that Moore’s film is being referred to as “propaganda” while Bush’s campaign ads are called “mean spirited politics” at the worst. Theaters refuse to run Moore’s film, but no one is refusing to run Bush campaign ads portraying Kerry as nothing short of a communist family hating elitist. The sad thing is that all this film needed was a more respectable director at the helm for people to take it seriously. Moore takes reliable sources and puts his own spin on it until you can’t tell what is fact and what is opinion anymore. The best moment in the film is the very last scene (clip) though. One that anyone who watches the Daily Show has seen before and I just can’t get it out of my head no matter what I try.

FoxNews will tell you everything Moore got wrong so you can hate Moore/Kerry and vote for Bush, but they sure shy away from what Moore got right. I read several reviews and saw coverage on the news networks about the release of the movie..nowhere did I see any coverage of the parts of the film about the Oregon coast, the name/s blacked out on Bush’s newly released records, etc.

Things are coming together for California. It appears now that I will live with Aaron in a two bedroom until Chi and Brian can head out. We are going to pay a company to find our apartment I guess. They say it usually takes 2-6 days to find a place for clients, and that is what I/we need. I need to get an address soon so I can give it to the movers.

I went to Marietta Friday and made sure I took some allergy medicine so I wouldn’t get sick like last time. It worked…but now I’m sneezing all over the place after coming back to Columbus…why?

Amy is coming in to town Wednesday night, so I’m looking forward to that. One of her Aussie friends thinks she looks like she is on drugs in the hotornot.com picture. After looking at it again I can sort of see that because in one of the parts she has her eyes halfway closed…but that is a bit of a stretch in my opinion. Leave me some comments with what y’all think, does she look stoned, or no?

Why is it that any white chick with blonde hair and a famous relative gets to be a pop star now? Now we even have to listen to Hulk Hogan’s daughter.. I watched a few minutes of Ashley Simpson’s tv show and I wanted to vomit. She was complaining to her dad about having to sing her “single” in the studio like I would have complained about taking out the trash. I know some real musicians up in Akron that are in debt because of the money they spent recording their last album, and it is a great album not just a single. The Simpson family has the right to spend their money however they want, but it seems pretty arrogant of them to try to get America to tune in and watch that little brat complain about how “hard” it is to sing her (guaranteed by the record company) hit single, exhausting an endless supply of money paying for the best studio with the best producers and (pop) songwriters. I felt sorry for the backing band that they hired and had to play her “first live performance” with her. Those guys in her “band” have probably spent their whole (young) lives working really hard to get where they are. I would bet a lot of those guys studied music in college or a conservatory…only to end up being paid a fraction of what that teenager will make. I’m sure there are thousands of talented Americans out there with great songs that we’ll never hear, because they aren’t related to someone famous.

Anyone who knows me knows that I could go on forever and ever about the evil that Tommy Mattola, Richard Branson, Zach Horowitz, and their peers have unleashed upon the world in the past decade. Better stop now before I give myself a headache.

  1. “One that anyone who watches the Daily Show has seen before and I just can’t get it out of my head no matter what I try. ”
    Tell me moore……

  2. how is that? I know you can download copies of the movie online legally (Moore said he didn’t care)…but the process is time consuming, I tried it myself and gave up….is the old man next door really that tech-savvy?

  3. hmm…
What book are you reading this week, dad? I’ll spend a few minutes online reading some biased reviews and tell you why it’s bullshit without even reading it.

Talking about a movie in such a way as you have without seeing it usually speaks of a person’s short attention span. Do you think you have a short attention span? I didn’t think so. The same people who watch the opening two minutes of A Space Odyssey: 2001 (which is a blank screen with only music heard) and conclude that the movie is too boring to watch and leave the theater/room are the same way.

Now, your response to this will be to say that you are criticizing the director (who is admittedly nonobjective) and assume that this movie will be similar to his other movies which you don’t like. However…I thought you said you haven’t seen any of his movies before. Also, in our little discussion, you mentioned specific passages of the film and how they were wrong (like the “flying Osama’s family out of the US when nobody else was flying”). This is faulty reasoning because you haven’t seen the film and how Moore ACTUALLY treated the subject, not how Bill O’ Reilly SAID he did. I watched for those parts of the movie. In fact, in the movie, Moore was careful to not actually say that the family members had flown when noone else could. Because of editing, it would be easy to assume that, but in fact he does not ever state it outright in the film. These kinds of “true-lies” in the film are exactly the same as how Bush worded his speaches about Iraq so that he couldn’t be blamed for saying he knew of an exact link between Iraq and Al-Qeada, he just made it SEEM like he said that.

I’m not really in the mood for all of this right now, I’m already too angry about other things. I’ll worry about politics again when I know I have a place to live in September. I guess I shouldn’t have posted that review after all.

  4. And yes, I have a short attention span when it comes to bull shit. Scarey Movie might be a scream but I don’t have to sit thru it or pay the price of admission to determine that it is pretty much worthless for serious content. Diet coke tastes like horse piss but some people drink it all the time. Your contention that I make my evaluations based on a tv program are really troubling considering what a bright boy you are.(see how that works?)

  5. Yes, as you can see he is in fact a big fat slob by his appearance. The stupidity is a personal opinion, which you are entitled to. Keep in mind that Stanley Kubrick was a big fat slob as well.

  6. And anyway, “Fahrenheit 9/11″ is a really, really, moronic title. Maybe the bottom feeders next visual vomit can be” the lord of the squares”–a blistering expose’ of how americans are stealing all the best french snails.

  7. Yes, well scarey movie isn’t attempting to change the outcome of an election. Scarey Movie is a complete fiction. While you may laugh and want to say the same of Moore’s movie, it is at least a SPUN version of reality. (the O’Reilly Factor anyone??!) I guess I shouldn’t really care if you like it or not since you aren’t going to vote…but the fact that this movie (alone) is polarizing people to vote (for either side) without even seeing it is scary… because where are they getting their information? Are they smart enough to get it from more than one source/network…we all know the answer to that question because we all know the majority (i.e. over 50%) of the American population isn’t as bright as you or I. I think the number of people that have seen this movie are around seven million now, correct? Now lets assume that every single one of them has decided to vote for Kerry. Now…how many people tune in to Bill O’Reilly EVERY NIGHT? (I think I read 3 million somewhere) If we assume every one of them takes what he says at face value and votes for Bush…that is a lot more stupid replublicans than democrats making a decision based on (the release of) this movie alone. Maybe Moore was hurting the cause more than helping since more people will learn about the movie through republican media outlets (who spin it as a reason to vote for Bush and hate democrats) than actually going to see it.

The ironic thing is that the movie does criticize the democrats too. Tom Daschle is portrayed as an out and out pussy… and Gore as a quitter who figured “if you can’t beat them, join them.” The movie criticizes more than just Bush, but government as a whole…but Rupert Murdoch will make damn sure nobody hears about that.

  8. Actually,98% of the population is not as bright as me. Not bragging–it’s a matter of record. “spun” facts are lies. If you “spin” to deceive–then you are a liar. If you deceive for profit then you are a thief.jes’ trin to kip it ri’l,bro. words do count- i.e.: “big fat liar slob” means m. moore (at least that’s what Jesus…I mean bill o’reilly.. told me.).

  9. What a fascinating contradiction…Bill O’Reilly told you Moore was a liar.. Bill O’Reilly spins the facts. If spinning the facts makes you a liar…then Bill O’Reilly is lying about Moore being a liar…

That also makes our president a thief since he “spun” the facts to get us to go and get more oil/profit.

It is starting to sound more and moore like we are we are on the same side.

By the way, when you were writing that I was on lunch break trying sushi for the first time…
