Remember what I was saying yesterday about how deadly my area is?
Well, now there are at least two fires within breathing distance. On the way to work this morning I could see the fire to the east – then when I went to lunch there was a brand new one apparently due north.
The Tujunga Canyon fire burned west and reached the edge of Sylmar. My husband made it to work an hour late this morning from all the traffic around his building. The Sylmar UPS hub is right up against the hills next to the fire. The building was evacuated earlier in the morning because the fire was so close. One car in the parking lot had the windows rolled down. Some stray embers blew into the car through the open window and the entire car burned from the inside out.
He still worked today but will probably sleep in our house in Castaic because the 118 West is closed near Topanga. Cars were crashing on the freeway due to the lack of visibility from the smoke at the Porter Ranch fire.
wow, well you guys had a rough day, didn’t you? Sorry to hear that.
Not only did cars crash, but someone died. Who knew SoCal was such a dangerous place to live (ignoring earthquakes)?
