i went through this last year, and emily’s car just did it last week.
make sure the terminals are completely clean and TIGHT!
i wound up buying a new battery and still had random no-starts.
watch the terminals for sparks and have someone else try to start it. if its like ours, there is some corrosion residue on the inside of the terminal adapter that is gimping the power draw.
i wound up getting new adapters and rewiring it. should only be a few bucks.
also, do NOT get the autozone/advance terminal protectant jelly crap. it actually can impair contact with the terminals, and create the same problem you might be having with the corrosion.
a different way to check might be to take a jumper cable to the terminals, and fix the other end to the adapter base(not the contact point, but the solid metal end where it goes into the wires) and see if it will start.(was how i found out i had bad adapters.)
i also had this problem, terminal was loose and would randomly not start. then it turned out the terminal was cracked down the side, so i replaced them cheap. they also have bumpers and fuzzy things to put around the posts for secure fitting… good luck
Friday Every time I write about us going on some trip I have to put the disclaimer about covid cautious behavior. Yes, we ate outside every time (except for planes which require a hold breath, bite/drink, exhale, remask procedure, which sounds ridiculous but it’s that or no water for 13 hours). Yes, masks everywhere. Yes, […]
A few folks have reached out wondering how we’re doing since we live in Los Angeles. Because it’s still a developing situation my update will be short: I wasn’t going to post about this, but I found myself on the blog looking up the locations of some of the places I’d taken my parents on […]
Friday morning we shut down the house and headed to LAX. Despite a disorganized boarding queueing procedure from Air Canada, the actual flight was not full and we ended up with an empty seat next to us. However, the flight was delayed for about a half hour due to a “maintenance procedure” that prolonged our […]
Bad battery I’d say. If you have 70k on the OEM it’s time for a new one. At least it didn’t go out on a dark -10 degree day.
well, that is what it probably is… but I SWEAR they replaced it already within the last year or two….
Check the card on the top–it should have a date punched out–and a waranty period. Some batteries do fail during that period.
ah… I will check

yeah, I cleaned them really good this morning. A coworker picked me up to go get jumper cables and terminal cleaning stuff.
started after the jump…then I drove to work.. we’ll see if it starts again in a few minutes…
