nobody will check…trust me

You know, it seems like the Bush administration has been doing a lot of finger crossing behind it’s back these days. First Cheney says “I’ve never met you before tonight” to John Edwards in the VP debate….then video turns up of the two men (and their wives) sitting next to each other at an official dinner. He also says he has “presided over the senate almost every tuesday” when “almost every” turns out to mean less than ten times in four years (not counting private sessions that democrats aren’t welcome to attend). Now we see John Kerry assailing Bush about failure in Iraq because he lost the weapons cache at Al-Qaqaa (what a fitting name, don’t you think?). Bush counters with “they were gone before we got there” and has a satellite image of Iraqi activity at the bunkers two days before the invasion. (The bunkers were not where the weapons were kept by the way) Ok, so I had to give it to Georgy on that one.. THEN this morning we find out that a reporter with the invasion force made a video of a soldier examining the barrels of ammunitions in April AFTER the invasion… Which is worse, a candidate that says 100% when his plan really covers 90%….or a candidate (and VP candidate) that boldy looks America in the eye and lies not once but over and over and over. The ultimate irony is that Bush will probably win. When you control all media in small town America, the people never hear the TRUTH, let alone dissenting opinions. For all they know in Marietta….Dick Cheney has never met John Edwards before and a president who “doesn’t really spend a lot of time thinking about” catching Osama Bin Ladin is the obvious choice to keep us safe.

At least that is what Maja Rushie, Glenn Beck, and Bill O’Really? think.

Alright, I’ve opened the floodgates DJ and JD, lets see what you’ve got….
This should make for some lively conversation at the reception.

(I’m going to Cleveland for my cousin John’s wedding for those of you who don’t know)

  1. At this point the “missing explosivies” is just an absurd issue. Oh right, we just found out that they can be used for a nuke….no wait, wait, that would mean he had WMD..no,no, wait- somebody at the U.N. said that oil can be used to make flu shots. Oh…..this just hurts my head to actually think—–I guess i will go for the guy that gives me all the other guys stuff. JOHN “GOOSE” KERRY (also known as “poodle” WILL SAY ANYTHING TO GET ELECTED. Go bbuuuussssshhhhhie- rah, rah

  2. hmmm….so John Kerry using somebody else’s news reports as campaign fodder is “saying anything to get elected” but Cheney saying he has never met Edwards isn’t…and both Bush and Cheney asserting that if you go to the polls (or anywhere at all in a “large urban area”) you just may get blown up when the terrorists detonate that new bomb that could kill “not just thousands, but hundreds of thousands.” Hmm…interesting how they are so keen on every little threat now, but a bundle of papers entitled “Bin Ladin determined to attack in US” got no attention three years ago. You (I’m using “you” in the collective sense here by the way) have to stop and think about how wrong it is that Bush has to hope terrorists will attack to win. This has been Rush’s (sic)selling point the whole time that the Democrats are hoping for disaster, but it is really the Republican party, and here is why:

#1 it will prevent people from voting. It doesn’t take a lot of research to figure out that the higher the voter turn-out the more likely it is that Bush isn’t keeping his job

#2 another attack would “prove” the administration right. It would return us to a post 9/11 mentality where everyone would go along with whatever the president wanted again (which would include voting him into a second term).

#3 the more focus on “terror” as an election issue (which many believe is Bush’s strongest point), the less we will hear about other issues (which many believe are Kerry’s strong points) like health care.

#4 maybe-just maybe- if the terrorists attack, Bush can suspend the election long enough for a certain supreme court judge with cancer to step down and be replaced.

#5 when terrorists attacked before it polarized American politics, if it happens again, it would be the perfect chance for Bush to say “If you vote for Kerry you are unpatriotic.” “You don’t…HATE America do you?!…so vote for me February 2nd when the polls open up again!”

#6 I’m sure I’ve forgotten lots of stuff so help me out people (Mr. Machine I’m looking in your direction).

The weird thing is…I thought since we conquered Afganistan and Iraq…shouldn’t we have a handle on this whole “imminent terrorist threat” thing? Isn’t that WHY we went to Iraq (according to the BS Bush and Cheney spat out at us two years ago)? Funny how we gave them exactly what they (the administration) wanted and…we still have the “imminent threat.”

  3. #1 No, there is nothing at all that would suggest that democrats are the majority in the country. quite the opposite actually.
#2 bush is leading the polls, and favored to win by every independant source trying to handicap the election.
#3 Kerry is actually extremely weak on domestic issues. virtually all of his health care proposals have been shot down as being laughbly misguided. for instance; prescription drugs from canada. bush suggested the same thing 4 years ago, and found out that it simply wont work. we cant buy canadian drugs, because the reason they are cheaper is due to the government subsidizing. it doesnt matter what the american government decides to do in this matter, as its really not up to us….and with the socialized healthcare in canada failing to the point that the people that can afford it go to american hospitals, its doubtful they would allow a pack of americans to pillage their cheap drugs.
#4 suspending the elections would not extend his presidency.
#5 he can say that now.

since we invaded iraq and afghanistan, weve taken down several high ranking terrorists and their allies, and there has yet to be a single succesful attack on our soil.

  4. the guy that looks you in the eye and lies over and over—I’m not clear which one you ment– which one –Kerry or Edwards? Or is it that other liberal saint -bill (the stain) clinton. Ask a professional about health care–see if they recomend more government control. Buying drugs from Canada is just another scam that the dumbocrats are using to trap the befuddled into throwing away their vote on the junior senator from France. In this eleventh hour the question is: Who will win? “no one has ever gone broke by underestimating the intelligence of the american public” H. L. Menkin (sp?)

  5. hmm…so you are saying that good ideas that won’t work are worse than bad ideas that won’t work? 1,000 american soldiers and 100,000 foreign civilians won’t die in an effort to get a national health care system….

Either way, you and Jon’s political opinions really mean nothing if you aren’t going to go and vote. I’m wearing my “I voted today” sticker right now…are you two? and where do you live…Ohio! Your vote may actually count. If one really has strong opinions…they will make sure their voice is heard, or at least try. I feel perfectly justified in berating Bush because I voted in 2000 and it wasn’t for him. If Kerry wins today (and carries Ohio), you two have no business criticizing anything he does for the next four years, since by your inaction you let him into office.

  6. I voted for Bush-Not that I approve of him but because Kerry betrayed the warriors code. I suspect that if the media had the integrity to explore nthe votes of the NRA members and the viet nam vets they would find out who really defeated Kerry–himself. Your “if you don’t vote” comment is wrong. That has been going around for a long time but it is not logical.
We elect the president to execute the law, we dont elect the president to be king. The congress has the business of making law with the constant input of the citizens-not just the reg. voters.

  7. This just in: John Kerry has been appointed by France to be their rep. at the world court investigation into oil for food. John Edwards has filed class action law suit against Heintz because all their catsup is red. G.W. Bush has been appointed by God to lead us all to glory.

  8. the sad thing is that all those christians that went out to vote for only religious reasons…they all believe wholeheartedly that last statement about being appointed by god. Just in the past month I met two people in my personal life that have this opinion (and aren’t joking). Why am I the only one that is scared by this? The country is apparently headed in a frightening new direction. I’m embarrassed to be in the 18-24 range where only 10% showed up at the polls yesterday. The fiscal policies that Bush (or whoever got in) enacts will affect my generation because we’ll be paying off those tax cuts with interest…or that health care bill… Yet the young people stayed away in droves. The punishment of course is that the young people will get drafted and die. That is all fine and good for those that didn’t vote, but I did, and it churns my stomach to think that in what may have been the most important election of our lives my peers didn’t even bother to try. I’m certain that the majority of that 10% of young people that did vote where the little jesus freaks. In 2000 George Bush thought he could do whatever he wanted because he had the mandate of God, now he believes he also has the mandate of the American people. Remember that “I’m a uniter, not a divider” business? Keep in mind that while Roe Vs. Wade is overturned and the draft comes back half of America didn’t want it. To get just enough of the vote to attain office and then make policies slanted towards your party is one thing, but to take a completely partisan stance on every issue and ignore half of the country is another. If the majority of America really wants to throw away their rights to privacy, combine church and state, and launch preemptive strikes that end up killing thousands of soldiers in a volunteer army….then I’m anti-American.

  9. do you honestly buy into that doom and gloom garbage?

andrew, business is ALWAYS positive under a republican majority, and always negative under a democratic one. you cant honestly think that bush getting re-elected is going to cost you a job.

look, your economic worries have far more to do with the fact you are living in the state with the worst economy in the nation. it also happens to be the most liberal state in the union…..coincidence? yep, definatly.

also, your “draft” concerns are way off. bush promised there would be no draft. kerry didnt promise anything like that, and in fact said he wanted to dramatically raise troop levels. so no, I was actually worried kerry would be elected and i would be drafted……republicans have been anti-draft since vietnam, democrats pro-draft.

    open your eyes man!

  10. ironic how the two guys without jobs are telling the guy with one how great the economy is… but I suppose your troubles are all Clinton’s fault, right?

You might want to check some facts before saying things like “California has the worst economy in the nation.” A simple comparison of the facts on the US official BLS website reveals that the unemployment rate in Ohio has been higher than California since August. California’s economy rivals that of whole countries, I live out here and I lived in Columbus for five years….if anybody would know first hand it is me. That is why I came here, because even in a Bush economy, California had the most promising job opportunities (at least in my profession).

You also might want to take a look at this: http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/10/14/ohio.race/

pay special attention to paragraph #7.

maybe you said “california” when you meant to say “ohio”…mistakes happen, it’s ok, I’ll give you another four years to get it right I guess.

  11. “It’s all Ad’s fault”-Mrs. Hominem
“When in doubt, persecute Bloom”- James Joyce
“I left my wallet in my other suit”-
    liberal
Yes-for those with any doubt-I am Andrew’s bummy out-of work father. I hang my head in shame to presume that I could have a valid opinion when all I have is 45 years in the work place, a degree (with honors) in economics from marietta college, 6 years working in Intelligence (geopolitics)- “and I got the medals to prove it”-
    “lately it’s occurred to me,
What a long strange trip it’s been”

  12. Oh jesus, dad, you know that is not what I meant. Although…I never knew that your degree was in economics… I thought it was in engineering, since that is what you do. I also didn’t know you were in the USAF for six years…I thought you left when your time was up. I would never say that I know more (except about something in my arena like graphic design, art history, etc.) than you or mom, you are two of the smartest people I know. The comment was more directly aimed at Jon, but I had to point out that the guys looking for work are happy to reelect the guy that presided over 232,000 job losses in their state. I believed that a new direction in the white house would make businesses optimistic (perhaps if only for the end of the war, which we all know leads to economic growth). When businesses are optimistic, they build buildings and can afford to hire the best people (YOU) to build them.

So, I apologize, dad. Didn’t mean to bash you.

I was running on empty yesterday. I got maybe three hours of sleep on election night, so all the “doom and gloom” thinking (as Jon put it) was magnified.

  13. I know that you ment no harm. I was going for the irony of irony. (but facts about myself are true)-air force:4years active:intel spec working on war plans for SAC-450th heavy bomb wing; targeting/recon for TAC in SEA-15th task force. 2 years active reserve:907th SOG-wing NCOIC intelligence. Engineering:Attended OSU but no degree. And thanks for your reply-it’s a ray of sunshine in this dreary mid ohio valley fall day.

  14. Aw, that is too bad. It is clear and sunny out here. Amy and I are going to the beach this weekend…but we can’t decide on which one yet…Malibu, Santa Barbra, Santa Monica, Venice Beach, Newport Beach…they are all within 90 miles of here. What a life, eh? Not everything is perfect though. I was floggin’ the V6 pretty hard in the sporttronic mode this morning and the CEL came on… have to see what that is all about at some point. Still haven’t figured out how or when to get the 6 to a cosmetic surgeon either.
