Today I introduced Cindy to Stoney Point.
It was ironic because she knows a lot about indoor climbing but has never done it “in the wild” – which turned out to be an entirely different experience.
Cindy also made her first trip to Vallarta today and went home with a lot of confectionary delights (and Guava flavored yogurt).
I need climbing shoes… but they are so expensive…
oh yeah, I’ve always wanted to go up there. How do you actually get “in” there?
Is the face Cindy is on: 34d16’9″N 118d36’13.3″W ?
no, just a bit west of there (about 300 feet) on the other side of the walking trail.
(we are both on the same rock by the way)
There’s two ways you can go. Off Santa Susana Pass road (across from Stoney point) you can acess the rocks near The Church at Rocky Peak (other side of the mobile home park on Topanga)
Or, you can head up the freeway towards Simi and exit at Rocky Peak Road. There is a place to park and hiking trails that lead up to various Rocks towards the top of the Peak. Happy climbing. 🙂
I have always wanted to try this. One group offers a day training for rock climbing on going.com. I’ve often been tempted to sign up.
There are so many good places by Rocky Peak. Each time I drive by that area I just want to go exploring.
okay okay – I’ll get the shoes. A crush pad might not be a bad idea either since we don’t use any other safety devices.
where is Rocky Peak?
You live in Winnetka and don’t know where Rocky Peak is? LMAO! How long have you lived in the valley?
The rocks at Rocky Peak are those large, very obvious rocks that jut out of the mountains at the 118 and Topanga Canyon. (sorry, you left yourself open for that one– he he) My mom lives right next to them. I was just there yesterday.
