I checked my mail after class last night and discovered a late birthday card. I saw it was from Sarah (Carnes/Ward) and was surprised. Sarah and I had been “friends” in high school and although becoming facebook “friends” recently hadn’t spoken much in the ensuing decade after graduation. I say we were “friends” back then because it was more like I followed her around and never got the guts to ask her for a date, and she was happy (as far as I know) that I wasn’t more confident. Later on I became disinterested and we were just regular friends, although Byron always hung out with her a lot more than I did as I think they worked together at Coldwater Creek for a time.
Anyway, the card was a bizarre birthday card.
and upon opening….
When I opened it up Mr. Rogers started singing his song You Can Never Go Down the Drain. However, it cut out after the third line of the chorus… and Byron and I thought it sounded … off. I looked it up online and of course, they were cutting off the last line of the chorus (something about being bigger than a telescope).
Byron fessed up later that he had been talking to Sarah on her birthday (which has always been a week before mine) and they joked about her finding the “gayest birthday card you can find” for me.
