proposition 8 passes

Apparently there are more homophobes, mormons, knights of columbus and gullible people in California than I thought.

Seriously? Half of California bought those misleading ads? Really? Aren’t republicans supposed to be AGAINST changing the constitution? I’m all confused now…

Now nobody has to worry about their children being taught about gay marriage in school.

wait.. what is that? It wasn’t taught already – and gay marriage was legal? oh…

So I guess all we succeeded in doing here was officially linking church and state together as one and establishing marriage as a religious ceremony. Watch out Jews, your marriage isn’t really “valid” either since you don’t believe in Jesus and we’re on our way to establishing that only male and female virgins who’ve accepted christ as their lord and savior and consumated their union in a church can have marriage tax benefits. One of the bad things about religions is that to truly believe in any of them – you have to truly believe that the others are wrong. Since the majority religion in America is christianity… we have dogma trumping common sense.

Lets examine the “I don’t want my kids learning about this” argument. So.. you don’t want your kids learning about gay marriage. Which means you are uncomfortable with your kids learning about gay people. Which means YOU are uncomfortable with gay people. Which means YOU are homophobic. “No, I’m just holding true to my beliefs.” Yes, you are holding true to your homophobic beliefs. If your belief system held that black people couldn’t get married we’d have no problem defining that as a racism problem – not a “religious belief.” Stop hiding. Jesus loved everybody, right? That means everybody. Everybody.

I don’t think there was supposed to be an asterisk anywhere by the word.

Like I said before, if you want to have some special christian monogamy ceremony that is great, you just shouldn’t get tax benefits if you’re excluding anybody. Call it “the Jesus Love Bond” if you want – just don’t let that interfere with my tax benefits for choosing a life partner (of whatever sex) – which is currently called “marriage” under the law.

Hiding the real world (whether you like it or not – to quote a popular mayor) from children is one of the reasons our country is fumbling. We hide sexuality (not just homosexual, but all kinds) from our children like the plague and for some reason replace it with violence. Although MTV is putting enough trash and/or hip hop on tv to change this I suppose. Ask a ten year old what the word sensual is and they’ll look at you funny. Ask them what “ho” means and they’ll give the names of the girls in class that are wearing the “special bracelets.”

So, great, now all you upstanding christian parents can tell your kids the gay couple next door to you (and your teachers, civic leaders, etc.) is going to hell and continue the cycle of hate until the end of time (which y’all believe is coming pretty soon… give or take a few years depending on which particular sect you subscribe to).

Proposition 8 didn’t restore your ability to hate. You had it all along.

Also… (stereotype, but it is true) … gay people have money. You don’t want that money in your state? Gay couples don’t have children, they have a lot more spending cash. For a state as cash strapped as California – you’d think making life easy for gay couples would be a no brainer. How many of those fancy houses would be worth as much in San Francisco or West Hollywood if all the gay people up and left overnight? …how much money would be pumped in from the entertainment industry if hollywood moved to Massachusetts overnight?

  1. Look to self interest for the way people will vote. If the Free Stuff Truck is pulling up to a house across town do you want to pay for the gas? Not so much.
Note that when the “green” projects are perceived to actually cost something-i.e. you will be forced to replace your car with an electric golf cart- Cal. voters said no. Yet the feel good bullet train was a yes because it was perceived to be O.P.M.
There is no selfish reason for a hetrosexual couple to vote yes for homosexual marriage–there is never enough free stuff for everyone. I’ll vote yessss for gay marriage if y’all force tha queers to listen to “red neck woman” and wear white shoes after labor day.

  2. Mormons are only 2% of the population in CA. Those other votes came from somewhere.

Sorry, your argument that not wanting children to learn about gay marriage and homosexuality makes someone homophobic doesn’t fly. I don’t go into uncontrolable spasms with deep seated fear whenver a gay person comes in contact with me. Once I find out someone is gay I don’t shun them. I treat them the same as I treat everyone else. I have a member of my family who is gay, I don’t shun her. I love her just the same. I may not approve of how she chooses to live her life, but I also don’t approve of my brother who has on occasion lived with his girlfriend and not been married. If someone wanted to start teaching my children that living together and not being married was okay, I’d fight that too. It’s an argument about personal beliefs, morals and principles. Some people will say that I can’t inflict my personal beliefs on them, but that is what politics is all about. My life is ruled in part by other peoples’ personal, political beliefs about everything under the sun.

I have no qualms about teaching my children about homosexuality, they will have to learn about it eventually. I just want to do it on my terms, when I deem it appropriate. I’m rather saddened by this whole thing coming up now because I do have to explain what homosexuality is to my oldest child. He may be 13, but developmentally he is much younger than that and I probably would have waited a couple more years to talk about it.

Is it a problem of separation of church and state? What if someone is not religious but still voted yes on prop 8? Would the argument that we are combining church and state still hold water?

I think Ann Coulter had it right when she wrote Godless. The libs won’t be satisifed until God is entirely removed from all forms of government and Atheism becomes the new state “religion”. I don’t think our forefathers could have ever foreseen this happening in America.

  3. Also . . .

I look forward to teaching my children that sex is wonderful, fulfilling, and a great thing. I just will be teaching them that it is best to have sex within the bonds of marriage–between a man and a woman.

  4. I keep forgetting to mention things in my comments–sorry.

So all those people picketing out in front of my temples throughout Southern CA and in Salt Lake City are filled with “love”?

Of course they are. Only proponents of Prop 8 are the “haters”.
